David Pellicer set out to introduce a color-based collection of eyewear that would transcend the divisions between art and fashion. The result was Etnia Barcelona and it has become the leading pioneer in color design and experimentation. It is a company that has rethought color in designer eyewear from an international perspective with a view towards a diversity of global influences across race and culture. Etnia Barcelona doesn't use injection of extrusion processes common to the manufacture of eyewear. They sought out Mazzucchelli, the leading manufacturer of cellulose acetate, in order to make their frames, because they depend on a complex industrial process that involves mixing cotton with acetone spray to create a paste that has color pigments pressed into it. This unique way of manufacturing allowsEtnia Barcelona to get the high quality of color they need while only using environmentally friendly materials. The mineral lenses are constructed by Barberini in Italy with state of the art technology and natural crystals. They are dependable anti-static impact and scratch resistant lenses that offer UV protection and glare reduction. This type of craftsmanship and vision offer their clients a product that can't be found elsewhere.
Supporting Mandela Initiative Africa Rising
Since 2003 they have donated 25,000 glasses to NGOs, in order to help bring sight to many who would not otherwise be able to afford eyewear. Etnia Barcelona’s Wild Love in Africa collection was collaboration with the Africa Rising Foundation, founded by Ndaba and Kweku Mandela to help further the development of regions across the entire continent of Africa. Eyewear offered by Etnia Barcelona reflects this commitment to design and global action.
